How much speed do you need?

At Bell Audi, we are well aware that different models suit different people. Among the array of available options, the Audi brand has both S and RS available. But what’s the difference between these similar sounding models? We’re going to break that down for you!

Similarities

Let’s start by taking a look at how the Audi S and RS models are alike. One of their similarities is that both of these are in the pricier range. This is because they offer a sleeker and more modern look than the other models. Additionally, both versions are more focused on sports performance than other available options, which are mostly more family-geared.

Audi S Models

This option began production in 1990. The S stands for sport, which means they are very fast cars. The 2022 Audi S7, for example, takes 4.5 seconds to go from 0-60 mph. It also has 444 horsepower and  443 lb-ft of torque. The Audi S model comes standard with the brand’s Quattro four-wheel-drive system, unique combustion engines, larger and more powerful breaks, stiffer suspension systems, a sportier style, and carbon fiber interior trims.

Audi RS Models

The name RS stands for the German word “rennsport,” which translates to “racing sport.” This class is a step above the S, which means it’s even faster. Let’s take a look at the 2021 Audi RS 6 Avant. This model can get you from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The car also features 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. These cars are among the most powerful Audi vehicles! The emphasis on these cars is on track performance rather than luxury, which means the interior will not produce quite the same effect as that of the S line.

The Main Takeaway

Both of these options are modern in their styling and sport-focused, which sets them apart from other classifications. They differ, however, in a more specific way. While both are sporty vehicles, the S model focuses on sports cars and the RS focuses on racing sports cars. This means the RS line features an engine that emphasizes speed and power even more strongly than the S line.

It comes down to if you’re more interested in speed or luxury. Both options, of course, offer a little bit of both, but focus more on one or the other. If speed and racing are your thing, we’d say go for the RS. If you’re still looking for a sports car but aren’t as concerned about finding a racing vehicle, the S option still offers a powerful engine and the luxury that you would expect from the Audi brand.
