The Audi S6 made its debut at the 2006 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It is a well-designed four-door sports sedan. For 2008, changes are minimal. The 2008 Audi S6 is a high performance midsize sedan that offers luxury and all-weather security to the driver and passengers.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2008 Audi S6 comes in one trim level. It is powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 that generates 435 hp and 398 pound-feet of torque. Power is pumped to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission that includes Tiptronic automanual shift paddles behind the steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. Quattro all-wheel-drive is standard with a 40/60 front to rear torque split for rear-wheel-drive dynamics. The S6 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Fuel economy is 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.
Build and Styling
Important standard features in the S6 include significant suspension tuning, large 19-inch wheels and brakes, exceptional styling elements, and aggressively bolstered front seats to support driving during curves and twists. The cabin is neat with leather, aluminum, and birch wood accents. Audi’s standard MMI control interface helps in operating entertainment, climate, communications, and navigation functions.
Safety Features
Safety equipment in the new S6 includes driver side airbag along with front dual seat mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, anti-lock disc brakes, and stability control. Optional safety features include rear-seat side airbags, rearview camera, and Audi's Lane Assist lane departure system. The S6 safety system is based on the Audi A6, which scored the highest possible rating of "Good" in both frontal-offset and side-impact in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests.
