Powertrain and Performance
The 2008 Audi A8 is available in three versions. The base A8 comes with a V-8 engine and standard wheelbase, the A8L is equipped with a V-8 engine and an extended wheelbase for better rear-seat legroom, and the A8L W12 speeds with a W-12 engine and a long-wheelbase body for maximum space and luxury. Standard A8 and A8L models are powered by a 4.2-liter, 40-valve, V-8 that uses direct fuel injection and produces 350 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque. The A8LW-12 model has a 6.0-liter, 12-cylinder, engine that produces 450 hp and 428 lb-ft. of torque. Both engines are coupled to a six-speed Tiptronic transmission and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The 4.2 V-8 version sprints to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and covers quarter a mile in 14.2 seconds, while the W-12 betters it by about half a second.
Build and Styling
The A8L W12 comes with four-zone climate control, keyless startup, parking sensors, power door closers, ventilated front seats, seat heaters, four-way lumbar adjustment (for all passengers), rearview camera, Alcantara headliner, and a wood-trimmed steering wheel. Audio system updates for W-12 include MP3 capability for the CD player and standard satellite radio. The 4.2 model is equipped with a new 20-inch optional wheel design.
Safety Features
