Audi launched its first-generation A4 in 1994 as a four-door saloon. The third generation 2008 Audi A4 has been created with more power, commendable gas mileage, state-of-the-art sound, Quattro all-wheel-drive, and standard exterior styling. The 2008 Audi A4 comes in sedan, wagon (Avant), and Cabriolet models.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2008 A4 is available with two engine options: a 2.0-liter turbocharged Inline-4 that produces 200 hp and 207 pound-feet of torque and a 3.1-liter V-6 that generates 255 hp and 243 lb-ft. of torque. A4 Avants are available with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive configuration. The A4 sedan and cabriolet are available with a choice between front-wheel-drive and Quattro. Quattro-equipped A4s and front-wheel-drive A4 3.2 models come with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Front-drive 2.0T models offer a continuously variable automatic transmission. The A4 has a fuel mileage estimate of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Build and Styling
The interior of the A4 maintains a high standard of quality and is comfortable for all passengers. The A4 2.0T sedan and wagon are equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, power driver seat, sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 10-speaker six-CD/MP3 changer audio system. The 3.2 model is equipped with 17-inch wheels, wood flourishes and further additions such as leather upholstery, heated front seats, and power front-passenger seat.
Safety Features
Standard safety equipment includes traction control, stability control, anti-lock brakes, front-seat side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags (except on Cabriolets). In the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration frontal crash tests, the A4 rated four stars; in side impact testing, it earned a perfect score of five stars for front occupants and four stars for those seated in the rear. The 2008 A4 attained a "Good" rating (the highest possible) from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for frontal offset, side-impact, and head restraint effectiveness tests.
