The Audi S8 is an ultra-luxury sport sedan that is based on the A8 platform. It made its North American debut as a 2001 model. The S8 and the A8 are the only sedans sold in the US to feature an aluminum-alloy construction. The USP of the new 2007 Audi S8 is its weather-beating all-wheel-drive, sharp exterior look, spacious interior, and silky powertrain.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2007 S8 has been built in one loaded trim level. It is powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 that generates 450 hp and 398 pound-feet of torque. The S8 pumps its power to all four wheels through a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission that facilitates manual gear changes through paddles behind the steering wheel. It clocks 0-60-mph in 5.0 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
Build and Styling
The 2007 Audi S8 is packaged with features that include a sport-tuned adjustable air suspension, complete power accessories, dual-zone automatic climate control, 20-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon adaptive HID headlights, upgraded brakes, unique front and rear fascias, front sport seats with 16-way power adjustment, a navigation system, and Bluetooth connectivity. Though the S8 is longer than the S6, it's lighter by about 200 pounds because of its all-aluminum unibody and exterior panels.
Safety Features
Standard safety equipment for the 2007 S8 include a tire-pressure monitor, stability control, anti-lock disc brakes, and various airbags such as side curtain, front-seat side, rear-seat side, and dual front knee. A front and rear park-assist system is optional.
